Named for an explorer, Clarkston is a business licensing trailblazer

The drawbridge over the Snake River connects
Lewiston and Clarkston.
More than 200 years ago, the Corps of Discovery blazed a trail along what is now called the Snake River. The present-day cities of Clarkston and Lewiston were founded on the river as namesakes honoring the captains of the Corps who explored the region for the young United States of America.

Today, the city of Clarkston is part of another historic enterprise as it links up with the state's premier combined licensing solution - the Business Licensing Service (BLS).

The city of 8,000 in southeast Washington is home to hundreds of independent businesses that will benefit from managing state registrations in the portal that supports local business licensing and state tax reporting. Clarkston joins regional neighbors Pullman and Walla Walla as BLS partners. The city of Yakima will join next month.

Welcome, Clarkston.

Lewiston and Clarkston on the Snake River.are the most inland seaports in the Western United States. Each is 320 miles east of the Pacific shoreline where the cities' explorer namesakes may have commented "Long time, no sea" way back in 1803.
