Cities do not register for a Minor Work Permit

Cities not required to seek Minor Work Permits for teen hiring

The weather is heating up and so is summertime hiring for teen workers.

Washington state cities do not need to apply for a Minor Work Permit when hiring teens. The rule applies to public entity employers, including municipal corporations. For detailed information, see WAC 296-125-010, as well as WAC 296-125-015(2)(3)(4) for definitions.

For federal labor requirements for hiring teen workers, see the child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). See https://www.dol.gov/whd/flsa/ or contact the U.S. Department of Labor for more information at (866) 487-9243
