By George! BLS has a new Central Washington partner

Q: What Grant County city celebrates the Fourth of July by serving locals cherry pie?

A: We cannot tell a lie -- It's George, Washington!

The city of George, Washington, has another reason to celebrate today. It's the newest member of the state Business Licensing Service (BLS).

The city was founded on July 4,1957, with a celebration featuring cherry pies. The popular pies are still shared at the city's annual Independence Day celebrations, including a record-breaking 1000-pound cherry pie served in 2012.

George is located in the middle of the state and got its name as a clever homage to the Father of Our Country. The city of 500 is connecting to nearby Quincy, Othello and other cities in the state's streamlined service for business licensing processes.

'Grandfather Cuts Loose the Ponies' is the name of the sculpture artwork that makes up Wild Horse Monument on a bluff near George, Washington, that overlooks the Vantage Bridge on Interstate 90
