Burien is the newest partner of the Department of Revenue’s Business Licensing Service (BLS). Today, Burien becomes the 21st city in King County to join the service that also supports nearby Federal Way, SeaTac, and Tukwila.
Now, thousands more King County businesses will benefit from the system that connects state and local license registration and renewals with Revenue’s familiar, streamlined solution.
Burien was incorporated in 1993 west of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It has grown rapidly with new residents and annexation to become one of Washington's top 25 largest cities with a population of more than 52,000.
Like more than 40 cities in Washington, Burien levies a local business and occupation tax -- often called "B&O tax."
BLS already supports most of the cities that have a local B&O tax. These cities may use on-demand reporting to export data from the Department of Revenue's secure system. Configured data can then be uploaded to any of the various systems that individual cities use to manage their local tax administration.
BLS support services are provided for free to all of its 132 municipal partners.
Welcome, Burien!
