BLS adds four cities in February

Mount Rainier is east of its namesake town.
The city of Rainier recently joined BLS.
From coastal cities to the Columbia Basin, BLS now has 160 city partners with dozens more joining soon.

Rainier,  named for its views of the state’s highest peak, joins its neighbors in BLS partnership. It is home to more than 100 businesses in Thurston County.

The Goldendale Observatory is on
state park property near Goldendale.

Goldendale with 3,500 residents in Klickitat County near the Columbia Gorge, is the site of the Goldendale Observatory established in 1973 as interest in space exploration soared in the United States. Goldendale's commerce is now connected with the agriculture business in the nearby Yakima Valley, as well as recreation and hospitality companies in the Gorge.

A pair of Grays Harbor communities are also joining BLS in February. Hoquiam is a historic timber mill town founded in 1890 with 9,000 residents while Elma, home to the Grays Harbor County Fair, has about 300 businesses and 3000 residents. All Grays Harbor cities that issue business licenses will connect to BLS by late spring.

Reminder: Annual tax reporting due date is April 15

To match the federal income tax deadline the Department of Revenue extended its tax reporting deadline to April 15. All businesses are now required to file and pay taxes electronically by April 15. Reporting and payment are simplified with the My DOR service available anytime at https://dor.wa.gov.

Relief from late penalties is extended

Revenue will waive BLS's late filing penalties for state and local endorsements through the end of the Covid-19 state of emergency under the Governor’s Proclamation 20-20 extension. The governor recently issued a helpful Roadmap to Recovery and the Department of Revenue is posting related information at dor.wa.gov/taxrelief.
