BLS wrapping up new local partnership plans this year

BLS engaged more than 150 municipalities over five years to help improve local licensing for both the municipalities and customers. BLS gradually expanded its services to help improve Washington’s business climate “by simplifying the administration of municipal general business licenses.” BLS will finish its last planned local partnership this fall, meeting a legislative deadline set in 2017.

BLS now partners with 202 cities and towns in addition to dozens of agency programs. This month, Bothell, a growing suburb north of Seattle, and Mesa, a small city north of Pasco, joined BLS. Later this spring, the Northeast Washington cities of Sprague, Northport, and Kettle Falls will participate in the combined licensing service.

Requesting a physical address change

Businesses requesting a physical address change for a business location may affect a state tax account and impact local licensing requirements. Changes to license accounts should come from the customer directly by accessing their account via My DOR. City and agency staff should not initiate a businesses’ physical address change in most cases. You can direct those businesses to contact the BLS Call Center at 360-705-6741 if they have questions.
